General concept: Nature is becoming rare in daily life.  In the way the urbanising world is generally built and planned, our everyday surroundings are increasingly perpetual and static through conditioned climates and 24 hour lighting. When unpredictable natural elements such as a lifting breeze, a sudden shower, or a setting sun are planned out of our surroundings, the timeline of our everyday is lost.

Nine hand-blown glass vessels that use the dimensional characteristics of water and the way it holds and refracts light, to create a new way of dimensionally drawing in mid-water..

Boundary Pendant - Faudet-Harrison

The Boundary pendant lights come in two different shapes, Boundary 120 is a spot light, and Boundary 300 is both a spot and ambient light. Made from powder-coated spun aluminium, each light has two parts that are joined with small stainless steel fixings. The internal spun section in both lights is finished in pebble grey and has a gentle inward curve at each end. Boundary 120 has a slim outer shade, whilst Boundary 300 has a wide shade, both are finished in white. The Boundary lights are simple, restrained and effortlessly graceful. Forms in Nature - HildenDiaz

 
The Light sculpture Forms in Nature resembles Darwinist Ernst Haeckel’s drawings . Using a simple action, such as intensifying the brightness at the center of the artwork, the light transforms the space and adds character, as the work throws oversized shadows onto walls and ceilings in the space in which it hangs.

The light sculpture Forms in Nature is partly inspired by Ernst Haeckel’s (1834- 1919) detailed plots from nature and is a further development of Hilden & Diaz’ fascination with mirrorings, as they have previously applied in other artworks.

Forms in Nature is a artwork with a light source surrounded by a dense and unruly tree and root system created in minature sculpture. The forest is mirrored around it’s horizontal central axis and forms a circle 360 degrees around the light source and thereby leads one onto the notion of a real world versus an underworld...

Softstop - Laservision

In conjunction with Tunnel Holdings Pty Ltd (owner and operator of Sydney Harbour Tunnel), Laservision has successfully developed and installed a radical new safety warning system that solves the persistent problem of drivers ignoring other more conventional signals to stop. The Laservision system creates the illusion of a solid surface that instantly blocks both southbound lanes of traffic. The Softstop Barrier System produces a pseudo holographic image that appears to float in mid air, commanding the attention of the motorist making the 'STOP' message impossible to miss.

Passing under Sydney harbour between the Harbour Bridge and the Sydney Opera House, the Sydney Harbour Tunnel was originally built to alleviate congestion on the Sydney Harbour Bridge. The tunnel was designed to be strong enough to withstand the impact of earthquakes and sinking ships and averages over 30 million vehicles per year.

Waterproofing traditional switch technology is expensive and often results in controls which are far from aspirational, discordant with the environment they are designed to work in. Water and or steam tend to find its way into moving parts and often cause damage resulting in dangerous, unreliable and unsightly products...

TikTikTik - Bitplay

 

TikTikTik is the perfect light for reading or even just cuddling a bit before bed—or for people who otherwise forget to turn off the light! Pulling down on TikTikTik’s pull chain sets the length of time the light is on. The further you pull the chain, the longer the lamp stays on. The lamp pull retracts silently until a few minutes before the timer runs out. The light dims and then turns off.

BANG! - Bitplay

BANG! is a desk lamp with a gun-shaped remote controller. User can fire the “gun” to turn the light off. The light goes out and the lampshade knocks to the side, showing that it’s been hit. To turn it back on, simply shot it again, and the lampshade will raise up slowly and turn the light back on at the same time.

Fly Lamp - Micasa Lab

Nebula 12 - Micasa Lab

With this spectacular research project, we haven't taken the stars down from the sky, but we have captured a cloud. And maybe, you will soon be able to take it home with you. This new development from the Micasa Lab appears to be a real wonder, but is based on a very simple principle: for Nebula 12, we combine liquid hydrogen with hot water to create a circulating steam cloud.

The light but stable creation can be used in many ways: Nebula 12 can, like a natural cloud, change in colour and brightness and thus can be used as a variable source of light for romantic evening meals, when doing homework, when reading or just chatting.

In the standard mode, Nebula 12 predicts the weather for the next 48 hours. A threatening low-pressure area is announced by a red cloud, and sunshine is shown in yellow. At the same time, the user can adjust the settings and define the source of information themselves. And the best is: regardless of how dark the cloud is, Nebula 12 never brings any rain. At least, not within one's own four walls...

Diller and Scofidio's Blur Building

The Blur Building was built for the Swiss Expo 2002 on Lake Neuchatel. It is an architecture of atmosphere. The lightweight tensegrity structure measures 300 feet wide by 200 feet deep by 75 feet high. The primary building material is indigenous to the site, water. Water is pumped from the lake, filtered, and shot as a fine mist through 31,500 high-pressure mist nozzles. A smart weather system reads the shifting climactic conditions of temperature, humidity, wind speed and direction, and processes the data in a central computer that regulates water pressure...

The Redwoods Treehouse

The challenge issued by Yellow to Pacific Environments, Architects, was to design a restaurant in a tree.
The result is a striking pod-shaped structure built ten metres high in a redwood tree near Warkworth, north of Auckland. Access to the Treehouse is provided by an elevated tree-top walkway. Parts of the walkway are built using redwood milled on site. The vertical fins and slats are built from sustainably grown pine and poplar.
The restaurant operated from December 2008 to February 2009 as part of a Yellow advertising campaign.
At the conclusion of the campaign, ownership of the Treehouse passed to the landowner. They are now in the process of obtaining a resource consent to use the venue for private/corporate functions and events, rather than as a restaurant.
The Treehouse seats 30 guests or can accommodate 50 guests standing for less formal gatherings.
