Reclamation Drive-Thru - Starbucks
I recently had the pleasure of cracking open my first built project for Starbucks: Reclamation Drive-Thru in Tukwila, Washington. This small project came at a perfect time here at Starbucks as we challenge ourselves to deliver LEED-certified stores across the US. Pending LEED certification, this project is just one step toward our goal of universally building all new company-owned stores to be LEED-certified Starbucks Stores. I wanted it to be green, thought provoking and sustainable – the sort of project that stirs chatter. I think we got it.
So, what is Reclamation Drive-Thru? The store was inspired by the view (captured in the image above) outside the window of our headquarters on first avenue in Seattle, as the Seattle Times rightly reported last week. Shipping containers source our coffees and teas from around the world. But many end up in scrap yards once they reach their average 20 year lifespan. Reclamation Drive-Thru was inspired by a desire to help keep items used throughout our supply chain, like old shipping containers, out of the waste stream. The result: a 450 square foot drive-thru and walk-up store made from four end-of-life-cycle shipping containers. One small 20-foot container holds garbage, recycling and storage, but other than that, the whole store is contained within the shells of four containers that have been reclaimed, refurnished, renewed and revived. And it works!
Savings go beyond storage containers, as well. The store reduces material use with simplified, environmental signage. The building itself serves as a sign post, while form painting on the asphalt intuitively guides customers into the drive-thru. Rainwater collected from the roof of the drive-thru is used to nourish surrounding landscaping. Xeriscaping (selecting plants that naturally require less water) helps reduce water consumption. And in the event that the store needs a new location, the entire structure can be disassembled and moved...

House Renovation In Ho Chi Minh City - 07BEACH
The method to design for this house is pretty simple.
I thought of it as the most important how the house should be for a comfortable life with your family.
Imagined your daily life through your personality which I have been felt usually.
Hoping that the space will not only be comfortable, but your daily life will also be more fun than usual.
Though the image I have about you is trite words, it's deep affection for your family.
I designed so that your house can represent your affection for your wife and two dogs,
and I designed it with the image that this house will be like a gift to your family.

Measure Ring Wheel - Dukno Yoon
This series originate from my fascination with geared wheels and is intended to create a kinetic ring that functions as a small-scale measuring tool.
These kinetic rings are designed and fabricated with precisely calculated gears and wheels. When the wearer rolls the primary wheel along a surface it measures length, which then can be read by the two hands on the top dial. Similar to the movement of a clock, the shorter hand indicates ten centimeters, the longer hand is used for one centimeter, while the tick marks on the wheel allow the length to also be measured in millimeters. These are kinetic rings, small sculptures, measuring tools and simply, enjoyable toys...

Wings - Dukno Yoon
Movement and interactive relationship with the body has been the most important element throughout my body of work. However through these works, I also started to explore the mechanical structure as a form. Mechanical structure becomes the most enjoyable form to me as it becomes complex yet remains simple and coherent.
The contrast between metal structural form and natural feather, together with the repetitive and whimsical movements of fragile wings, provokes the imagination and evolves the intimate relationship between work and viewer/wearer...

Fly Lamp - Micasa Lab
With the Fly Lamp, you'll never again be left in the dark. The floating lamp is carried by a hull filled with helium and can be easily used anywhere. The advantages are obvious: you save energy as you only use the source of light where it is really needed. Also, the light conditions can be adapted to suit the mood. And finally, you don't need a torch when you are outside at night or when there is a power cut. The Fly Lamp helps you always stay on the bright side of life.
A flying lamp which independently follows us and is always there for us – that is the new project from the Micasa Lab. Sputnik means companion in Russian and is a further development of the Fly Lamp. We will keep you informed of the progress of our bright companion...

Nebula 12 - Micasa Lab
With this spectacular research project, we haven't taken the stars down from the sky, but we have captured a cloud. And maybe, you will soon be able to take it home with you. This new development from the Micasa Lab appears to be a real wonder, but is based on a very simple principle: for Nebula 12, we combine liquid hydrogen with hot water to create a circulating steam cloud.
The light but stable creation can be used in many ways: Nebula 12 can, like a natural cloud, change in colour and brightness and thus can be used as a variable source of light for romantic evening meals, when doing homework, when reading or just chatting.
In the standard mode, Nebula 12 predicts the weather for the next 48 hours. A threatening low-pressure area is announced by a red cloud, and sunshine is shown in yellow. At the same time, the user can adjust the settings and define the source of information themselves. And the best is: regardless of how dark the cloud is, Nebula 12 never brings any rain. At least, not within one's own four walls...

Ink Calendar - Oscar Diaz
Calendar using the capillary action of the ink on the paper.
“Ink Calendar” make use the timed pace of the ink spreading on the paper to indicate time.
The ink is absorbed slowly, and the numbers in the calendar are “printed” daily. One a day, they are filled with ink until the end of the month. A calendar self-updated, which enhances the perception of time passing and not only signaling it.
The ink colors are based on a spectrum, which relate to a “color temperature scale”, each month having a color related to our perception of the weather on that month. The colors range from dark blue in December to, three shades of green in spring or oranges, red in the summer.
The scale for measuring the “color temperature” that I have used is a standard called ‘D65’ and corresponds roughly to a midday sun in Western / Northern Europe.
The “Ink Calendar” was developed for “Gradual “, an exhibition featuring works, which were evolving during the exhibition time at the London Design Festival 2007

Oscar Diaz - Loop
Diaz approached this bottle opener as an industrial tool, simplified in a manner to provoke curiosity. The Loop has a rough tumbled finish, and will open bottles for as long as you're drinking them.

D4R
You will find us nestled in the countryside on the outskirts of Leicester, different from most design agencies we know but we love it as it gives us time to think. Our landscape inspires us to be creative and we stay true to our roots.
Since our birth in 2003 we have been working with brands and retailers on all kinds of retail design projects. Now 9 years on we are a leading retail design agency still working with many of the same brands but have expanded our portfolio and now work on a global scale. Now 30 strong, we have built a team of talented, creative individuals, a handpicked group chosen for their intelligence, passion and love of design.
As creatives we can draw, conceptualise and organise each individual project we work on. We start with a blank canvass, listen to our clients needs and gradually, sometimes miraculously new creations are realised. Our complete range of services are utilised to their fullest extent by the entire retail design team from concept creation, graphic design and artwork, surveying, technical development, sourcing, project management, manufacture, installation and finally, logistics and warehousing.
Our approach is simple; we use our creative intelligence and apply it to everything we do!
